[VIDEO] Stranger Things Shows Us Nostalgia is Good

Wisecrack, the smartest pop culture YouTube channel, analyzes Stranger Things. Netflix’s mega hit, set in the 80’s is steeped in nostalgia. From movie references to the toys, Stranger Things isn’t shy about its influences. I believe that is what makes Stranger Things so original. There is a book by Austin Kleon entitled “Steal Like an Artist: 10 Things Nobody Told You About Being Creative.” In it he talks about famous artists who spent time writing, painting or playing the fan fiction of their favorite artists work, which would later manifest into their own, original idea. Stranger Things is inspired by the neon greatness that is the 80’s, so why not live in it? The video talks about how the show achieves its success, playing on that nostalgia by putting the point of view from the kids and toys they play with.
