Ideas always start somewhere, like with the podaholics network. The first name we were gonna go by was “Circle Jerks,” and it was going to be a webcam show starring Jay and I, talking politics, while jerking off. But I digress, your initial starting point rarely becomes what the final product is. Matt Greoning, who created The Simpsons, was waiting at a diner to talk about his rabbit comic strip, Life is Hell, with James L. Brooks. Matt had to pitch a new show, so he sketched The Simpsons on a napkin 10 minutes before meeting with James and gave them all names from people in Matt’s family.
Family Guy was originally entitled “The Life of Larry;” an over middle aged, bald, idiot(sound familiar?) who has a wife and a talking dog. Check out the full, original episode below.
