The ‘Simpsons’ loss will leave die hard fans mourning
The Simpsons say goodbye to one of their own as Marcia Wallace, voice of Edna Krabapple, passed away Saturday night at the age of 70. Twenty-four years have come and gone for the world-weary 4th grade teacher of the long-running Fox cartoon. Before fame on The Simpsons, Wallace was known for her portrayal of Carol Kester, the secretary on The Bob Newhart Show.
Wallace won an Emmy for season 3 episode, “Bart the Lover.” The episode focused on her character, Edna Krabapple while Bart played a prank – responding to a personal ad she had placed. After seeing her depressed in a restaurant waiting for her date, the young boy has a change of heart.
Wallace battled breast cancer since 1985, but had it beaten. It is not yet known what the cause of death is, but Simpsons reps say they were aware she was gravely ill.
