Saturday White Live with W. Kamau Bell

Podaholics Staff

This has become a hot topic recently, and now W. Kamau Bell from “Totally Biased” has weighed in on the controversy surrounding Saturday Night Live’s lack of hiring black folks or women for this season’s line-up.

The 39th season of SNL debuted two weeks ago with six new cast members and now the show is facing much criticism over the lack of black women cast members. Of the new recruits, one is a woman, five are men and they are all white.

SNL vet Keenan Thompson addressed the issue, “It’s just a tough part of the business. Like in auditions, they just never find ones that are ready.”

Fourth year, cast member Jay Pharoah expressed his opinions openly. “They need to pay attention,” he said about SNL brass. He even said SNL should cast Darmirra Brunson, who is now on Tyler Perry’s series Love Thy Neighbor on the OWN network.

“Why do you think she should be on the show? Because she’s black first of all, and she’s really talented. She’s amazing. She needs to be on SNL. I said it. And I believe they need to follow up with it like they said they were going to do last year.”

Nov 2, Scandal actress Kerry Washington is hosting Saturday Night Live. She’s black. Will the writers attempt to address the race controversy during that episode?
