Comedy Central Launches New Stand-Up App
When I thought about what an iOS app might look like from Comedy Central, I never expected this.
Comedy Central launched their new iPod and iPad app, CC:Stand-Up in the Apple App Store. The free app has 4 3/4 stars and heaped with great reviews. Now I see why.
For a new app launch, they nailed it. They’ve loaded over 6000 videos from 700 comedians into a well thought out user experience. Some are censored, some aren’t. For instance, Daniel Tosh’s special was completely untouched while Marc Maron’s was cleaned up.
The videos are usually a couple minutes long, some go longer depending on the bit(s). Then every third or fourth clip, a commercial will come in. I can live with that.
Here’s a quick screenshot tour of the app on an iPad. Check it out then go get it for yourself at Apple’s App Store.
The Discover page is really cool. As you push on an image of a comedian, it expands another set of comedians based off of that comedian. The animation of the comic buttons works neat.
If you want to see why a certain circle of comedians are paired together, you push the blue circle on the connecting lines, and it’ll tell you … See below:
The viewer is big, uncluttered and user-friendly…
The channels are broken down by different types, styles, genres, features, etc… And while you’re looking, the video continues to play in the top right corner so you don’t miss a thing.
And the search feature is really easy… That’s always important.
